Transform ESG at the South Gloucestershire Business Show

The South Gloucestershire Business Show is always a welcome opportunity to connect with other ambitious businesses in our region. It’s an exciting platform for discussion of some of the workplace’s most pressing contemporary issues, from mental health and wellbeing to cyber decisions, recruitment and retention – and everything else that affects today’s businesses.

This year, we were delighted to attend alongside our partners Action Net Zero, speaking about all things ESG. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our panels – it was great to see so much enthusiasm and curiosity about this vital framework.

The What, How, and Why of ESG

Pam Barbato is the founder of Community Interest Company Action Net Zero and is a Non-Executive Director of Transform ESG. Her talk on the ‘What, How, and Why of ESG’ offered an overview of ESG and its ever-growing importance, demystifying the tangible steps that businesses can take on their road to a more sustainable future.

Every business leader can make a difference, regardless of how large or small their enterprise is. Impacting the planet, local communities, your supply chain, sector and workforce, your ESG actions have the potential to ripple throughout a range of individuals and communities.

If you’d like to read more about what ESG really is, read our blog post, ‘What is ESG anyway?’ We break down its Environmental, Social and Governance components and the first steps that you can take in embracing it and measuring your progress.

Energy as a Key Driver for Success

Later, on the LIVETALK stage, Pam sat down with Stewart Davidson, Head of Marketing & Communications at Edwards Vacuum, to discuss how Edwards is minimising the environmental impacts of semiconductor manufacture.

While sustainability is at the heart of what Edwards does – removing toxic and greenhouse gases from manufacture using their abatement systems – they are taking steps to reduce their environmental impact even further. From installing onsite renewable energy in the form of rooftop solar PV at their Clevedon site, to recycling as much of their manufacturing waste as possible, their discussion was a fascinating insight into the barriers and solutions in scaling production while balancing environmental impact.

As leaders in vacuum and abatement, it was great to see the progress made in Edwards’ sustainability journey. We are looking forward to seeing what comes next!

Thank you to all organisers and attendees at The South Gloucestershire Business Show. We had a great time connecting with, and learning from, other businesses in the region – we’re keeping an eye out for 2023’s event.
